The Senate returned to Washington this week and leaders of both parties are hoping to move forward on a variety of economic initiatives. One of those is finding a way to counter rising gas prices. The U.S. House is set to vote on a bill that would give the Federal Trade Commission the authority to penalize oil companies proven to be guilty of price gouging. While the bill could pass, it is expected to face stiff resistance later on from Republicans in Congress. With few other options available for lawmakers, gas prices are expected to rise even higher in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
