AEO Releases 2025 Policy Priorities to Advance Opportunity for Small Businesses

Washington, D.C. – January 29, 2025– The Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO), the nation’s leading advocate for small businesses and entrepreneurial ecosystems, is proud to announce the release of its 2025 Policy Priorities. Building on a legacy of innovation and advocacy, AEO’s 2025 agenda outlines a bold roadmap to promote inclusive economic growth for small businesses across the nation.

As small businesses continue to drive the nation’s economy, AEO’s comprehensive policy framework focuses on unlocking pathways to capital, expanding market access, and fostering equitable opportunities. The 2025 priorities include key areas such as:

  • Catalyzing Access to Capital: Advocating for innovative financial products, stronger partnerships with CDFIs and MDIs, and support for alternative financing models such as revenue-based financing and crowdfunding.
  • Promoting ESG Integration: Supporting underserved businesses in adopting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles through mentorship, financial incentives, and ESG-focused supply chain opportunities.
  • Harnessing Emerging Technologies: Encouraging AI adoption, providing access to advanced technologies like blockchain and automation, and promoting ethical AI use and data privacy.
  • Enhancing Technical Assistance and Digital Literacy: Expanding business development services, increasing access to affordable digital tools and training, and fostering innovation through research partnerships.
  • Supporting Workforce Development: Advancing job creation and workforce training programs that empower small businesses and their communities, particularly in high-growth industries.
  • Supporting Gig and Independent Workers: Developing protections for gig workers, expanding access to capital tailored to their unique needs, and promoting skill-building opportunities to enhance career progression.

“At AEO, we are dedicated to building a future where every entrepreneur, no matter their background, has access to the resources and opportunities needed to thrive,” said Natalie Madeira Cofield, President & CEO of AEO. “Our 2025 Policy Priorities underscore our commitment to fostering an inclusive small business ecosystem by addressing key challenges and driving innovation through collaboration.”

The 2025 Policy Priorities also emphasize collaboration with policymakers, corporate partners, and community stakeholders to ensure these efforts translate into meaningful change for entrepreneurs nationwide. From promoting ethical AI practices to addressing wealth disparities and fostering workforce development, AEO’s agenda serves as a call to action for equitable economic development.
