President Biden intends to ask Congress for $1.6 Billion to combat ongoing fraud related to COVID relief programs, referred to as “pandemic fraud.” The proposal includes a request for a $600 million investment to ensure the government has the resources to investigate and prosecute those guilty of systemic or major pandemic fraud. In addition, half of the fund will go towards Pandemic Inspector General (IG) and Pandemic Response Accountability Committee (PRAC) investigative staff. The goal is to specifically invest $100 million in the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) IG staff, since it currently does not have the funding to adequately prosecute its known pandemic fraud caseload.
