AEO Joins Responsible Business Lending Coalition to Champion Fair and Transparent Capital Access for Small Businesses

Washington, D.C.The Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO), a leading voice for underserved entrepreneurs, has officially joined the Responsible Business Lending Coalition (RBLC), a cross-sector alliance dedicated to promoting fair, responsible, and transparent lending practices for small business owners.

AEO’s membership marks a significant step forward in advancing ethical lending standards at a time when small businesses continue to face complex and often opaque financing options.

“At AEO, we believe that access to capital must be accompanied by fairness, transparency, and accountability,” said Natalie Madeira Cofield, President and CEO of AEO. “Joining the Responsible Business Lending Coalition reflects our deep commitment to ensuring that small business owners—especially those historically excluded from mainstream finance—are protected from predatory lending practices and empowered with the tools they need to thrive. We’re proud to stand alongside this coalition to uphold the Borrowers’ Bill of Rights and advance responsible lending across the country.”

RBLC is the founding organization behind the Small Business Borrowers’ Bill of Rights, a landmark framework outlining six key protections all small business borrowers should expect: transparent pricing, non-abusive products, responsible underwriting, inclusive access to credit, fair collection practices, and fair treatment from brokers. AEO’s alignment with this framework strengthens the growing national movement for small business financing that is ethical, inclusive, and built for long-term success.

“AEO has long been a powerful voice for economic equity and entrepreneurship,” said Louis Caditz-Peck, Executive Director of RBLC. “We are thrilled to welcome them as a member of the coalition and look forward to working together to advance responsible lending policy and practice.”

AEO’s addition to the coalition builds on more than 30 years of experience in shaping programs and advocacy to support small businesses and inclusive economic growth.
