If I have two businesses, can I apply under each business name?

Business owners will multiple businesses can apply on behalf of only one business. We will only accept one grant application per business owner.

How do I upload my documents?

  • In your account, when viewing your Back2Business application, click “Business Documents Upload”.
  • On the next screen, use click the “Upload File” button for each document and upload the documents into the appropriate area.
  • Select “Mark as Complete” only when completely done (once you take this step, you will NOT be able to go back and edit further, and your application will be evaluated only on the documents you have provided).

What supporting documents do I need to provide?

We request that all applicants provide the following documents:

  • Bank statements for October-December 2020
  • Filed and signed tax returns for 2019
  • Business registration or articles of incorporation – these documents must show the date your business was formed

Can I email you my documents? Can you upload my documents on my behalf?

For the security and privacy of our applicants, we cannot accept any documents via email. 

I do not have not my 2019 tax returns. What other document(s) can I submit?

We do not accept substitutions for filed tax returns.

I started my business in 2019 and have not yet filed my tax returns. What documents will you accept?

2019 tax returns are required and substitutions for filed tax returns are not accepted.

What tax documents will you accept?

We accept the 1040 return with a Schedule C, 1120 S-Corp and 1065 partnership filings.

Do you want the full tax return or specific schedules on the return?

We request the full signed return with proof of filing.

What are articles of incorporation or a business registration?

An article of incorporation or a business registration is an official document establishing your business with your state government. 

My state does not require me to have a business license to operate. What other documents can I provide?

Our request is not for a business or professional license (cosmetology license, dental license, mechanic license, etc.). We are seeking filed documents that support how long your business has been operating and documentation confirming that your business is a legal entity. Documents we will accept are:

  • Articles of incorporation
  • Certificate of organization
  • Business registration
  • LLC or LLP filing
  • DBA or Assumed Name filing

Why are you requesting a business registration or articles of incorporation?

The Back2Business grant is open to established small businesses. The business license is documentation that the business is legally registered with their city or state government.

We will not accept transaction statements from your mobile payment systems.

Are you requesting business account or personal account bank statements?

Please upload the business bank statements for October-December 2020.  

I do not have a business bank account. I use a mobile payment software (PayPal, Square, CashApp) to manage my sales.

We require bank statements or other statements showing your business financial transactions for October-December 2020.  We will not accept transaction statements from your mobile payment systems.

I do not have an active business checking account. What other documents can I provide?

We require bank statements or other statements showing your business financial transactions for October-December 2020. 

My business financials are a part of my personal financials. What documents can I provide?

We require bank statements or other statements showing your business financial transactions.

I do not have certification documentation showing that my business is minority, women or veteran owned.

The certification documentation is optional. An applicant will not be declined because they did not provide certification documents. 

What happens to my application if I cannot provide all the requested documents?

Your application will be declined if we do not receive all the requested documents by the due date you’ve been given. 

I’ve submitted my additional responses and documentation. When can I expect to hear back about the status of my application?

We are working as quickly as possible to review all the applications submitted. A status update will be emailed to you after your application has been reviewed and moves onto the next stage of the application process. 

What is the status of my application?

Due to the high volume of applications received we cannot provide a status update on your application.  A status update will be sent to your email as your application moves through the review process. Please check your email often for updates and requests for information from AEO.

What is the application process?

Our application process includes verifying your eligibility, request for supporting documentation and business verification.

Why was I declined?

Due to the high volume of applications received we cannot provide an exact reason why your application was declined.  We appreciate your participation and wish your business the best of luck.

When will grants be awarded?

The grants are made on a rolling basis and grant payments are made weekly to selected small businesses.

I made an error in my application. Please reconsider my application.

I did not meet the deadline to submit new documentation. Can you reopen my application?

Due to the high volume of applications received we cannot reopen applications.

I do not see my city on the eligible location list. Can I still apply?

We understand that there is widespread need for support for small businesses across this country. However, our grant opportunity locations are set by our corporate partners. We are working to increase our reach and impact. Grant opportunities in other locations will be announced as they become available. My small business is located in one of the eligible cities but the application for my city is not yet open. What should I do?

Please return to submit your application when the application for your city opens.
