Negotiations on a modified coronavirus relief package–the details of which were recently released–continues as Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and lawmakers will again meet to talk shop. The House is expected to vote on the bill this week. Dubbed “HEROES 2.0,” the bill would provide funding for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), $50 million in grants to small businesses affected by COVID and $3.7 billion to support workforce training and workforce protection activities related to COVID.

 

HAPPENING ON THE HILL

 

The House Small Business Committee will hold a (hybrid) hearing on how COVID-19 is impacting small businesses across the food system. The hearing is scheduled for Sept. 30th at 10 AM ET. 

 

The House Subcommittee on Investigations, Oversight, and Regulations will hold a (hybrid) hearing on preventing fraud and abuse of PPP and EIDL. The hearing is scheduled for Oct. 1st at 10 AM ET. 

 

The Senate Committee on the Judiciary will hold an Executive Business Hearing on Oct. 1st at 10 AM ET.

U.S. Department of Labor

The DOL announced they will be awarding $4.1 million to increase women’s participation in apprenticeships and to expand their job opportunities.

 

The DOL announced they will be awarding $29 million to create workforce opportunities in rural communities through the Workforce Opportunities for Rural Communities (WORC) program and the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and the Delta Regional Authority (DRA).
