Reflecting on 2024 and Charting the 2025 Course: Advancing Leadership, Amplifying Impact, and Driving Innovation

Dear AEO Members, Partners, and Friends,

As we enter the first week of 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on the significant milestones we achieved in 2024 and share our ambitious plans for the year ahead. The past year was one of remarkable progress, new beginnings, and bold strides in advancing economic opportunity for entrepreneurs in rural and urban communities nationwide.

Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to AEO’s mission. Together, we are shaping a brighter and more equitable future for entrepreneurs everywhere. Here’s to a successful and transformative 2025!

A Look Back at 2024: Building Momentum

2024 was a year of transformation and innovation for AEO. Together, we made strides that strengthened our position as a national leader in entrepreneurship support and economic development. Key highlights include:

  • Regional Councils Launch: We introduced AEO’s regional council strategy, beginning with the South region, to foster regional collaboration and economic development tailored to local needs.
  • Major Research Releases:AEO published groundbreaking reports, including the Black Retail Study, which informed key national conversations on the future of minority-owned businesses.
  • Strategic Partnerships:Our partnerships with NMSDC, in addition to other national organizations, formalized through a new MOU, positioned us to deliver entrepreneurship training programs for diverse business owners entering corporate and government contracting markets
  • Operational Excellence:Through streamlined processes and cost management, we increased operational efficiency while enhancing our service delivery to members.
  • Expanding Our Voice:From regional convenings to national platforms, AEO amplified its mission across the country, elevating the voices of entrepreneurs and advocating for policies that promote equitable growth.

These achievements reflect the collective efforts of our dedicated team, board, members, and partners. Together, we made great strides in expanding access to resources and opportunities for small business owners.

Looking Forward: Our Vision for 2025

Building on the foundation we established in 2024, we are energized by the possibilities that lie ahead in 2025. This year, AEO will focus on strategic growth, innovation, and deeper engagement across the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Our key initiatives will include:

  • National Expansion of Regional Councils:Following the success of our South region launch, we will roll out additional regional councils to support entrepreneurs with localized solutions and foster stronger economic ecosystems.
  • Innovative Research and Insights:We will continue delivering data-driven insights and thought leadership to drive national dialogue on economic equity, entrepreneurship, and the future of work.
  • Eco-system Centered Programs:We are committed to creating more opportunities for engagement, learning, and collaboration through new programs, including workshops, peer-to-peer forums, and regional events to support eco-system cultivation.
  • Policy Advocacy and Partnerships: AEO will continue advocating for entrepreneurial equity and working closely with policymakers, corporations, and community organizations to create meaningful impact. This includes our forthcoming announcement of our 2025 Policy Priorities.
  • Staff and Board Development:AEO is actively working to expand leadership capacity through key hires and the announcement of exciting new Board appointments to enhance AEO’s impact and drive growth.

2025 promises to be a year of growth and new opportunities. We are excited to work alongside all of you to support entrepreneurs and small business owners in achieving their dreams and building wealth for themselves and their communities.
