FY19 Funding Deadline Approaching – As the December 7 FY19 funding deadline quickly approaches, lawmakers have introduced a two-week continuing resolution (CR) that would push the shutdown deadline to December 21. As a reminder, the CR expiring on Friday was passed in September to extend FY18 funding for agencies that have yet to be funded for FY19. President Trump said over the weekend he may support the two-week stopgap measure. The two-week spending measure would need the consent of all Republicans and Democrats in the Senate and House. The Senate continues to meet and vote this week, but the House will not meet until tomorrow with no votes scheduled.

Administration to Announce STEM Initiative – The Trump administration plans to launch a five-year STEM initiative today to build literacy, help prepare workers and increase diversity in the subject area. The initiative will partner with government agencies and education bodies. Private partnerships, which will also be announced today, will be part of the initiative’s funding. Funding for the plan will also be discussed as part of next year’s budget request.
