FY 2019 White House Budget Request
The White House is scheduled to release its FY 2019 Budget Request to Congress on February 12, as Congressional Leadership continue negotiations on a two-year deal to lift the budget caps imposed by the “Budget Control Act of 2011.” GOP Leadership is seeking to lift the cap on defense spending, while Democratic Leaders are insisting any hike in defense spending be coupled with a matching increase in domestic funding. Yesterday, Senate Majority Whip Jon Cornyn (R-TX) raised the prospect of another continuing appropriations resolution (CR), stating that after a deal is reached, it would take Congressional appropriators “additional weeks” to draft a bill and bring it up for a vote.
