Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) Releases Groundbreaking Report on Sustainability and Inclusion in Small Businesses
Washington, DC — The Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) is proud to announce the release of its latest report, “Seizing Opportunities: How Small Businesses Can Lead in Sustainability and Inclusion.” This comprehensive study delves into the critical role that small businesses, particularly diverse-owned small businesses, play in promoting sustainable and inclusive business practices.
In an era when corporations are increasingly prioritizing sustainability and inclusion, it is crucial to understand how these trends impact small businesses. This report underscores the urgency of the situation by highlighting the unique challenges and opportunities faced by small businesses, especially those owned by diverse entrepreneurs. By examining these dynamics, the report aims to provide actionable insights for small business owners, corporate partners, and policymakers, urging them to act on these findings.
This sustainability and inclusion report is based on extensive research, including surveys of 505 small businesses and interviews with key stakeholders. It outlines the significant benefits of supplier diversity programs, the importance of sustainability and impact reporting, and the proactive measures small businesses can take to align with industry expectations.
“AEO is committed to driving forward the dialogue on sustainability and inclusion within the small business community. This report provides essential insights that will guide our efforts to support and empower diverse-owned small businesses,” said Natalie Madeira Cofield, CEO of AEO. “Our findings highlight the urgent need for collaborative action to ensure these businesses can meet the evolving demands of the market, and the insights provided will be invaluable for small businesses seeking to align with larger corporate sustainability goals.”
“The report underscores the competitive advantage small businesses can gain from implementing sustainable practices and reducing carbon emissions,” says Laura Bryce, CEO of Hallstatt Holden. “These small businesses are increasingly becoming the preferred suppliers for large corporations and consumers alike.”
“Recommendations outlined in this report strengthen existing small business sustainability efforts, while providing opportunities for more small businesses to participate in transitioning to a more sustainable and inclusive economy,” shares Cassie Carroll of the Green Business Engagement National Network. “Small businesses have significant power to create change on a national scale, but to achieve this, more resources for both small businesses and support programs, along with policy, can really skyrocket sustainability and inclusion efforts nationally.”
To further the conversation, AEO will host a webinar featuring thought leaders, experts, and practitioners on the opportunity for small businesses to lead on sustainability and inclusion on Wednesday, September 25 at 3 p.m. EDT.
