The Small Business Administration (SBA) will now offer small businesses new options to show past performance ratings when they seek out prime federal contracts starting August 22.

The SBA published a new rule in the Federal Register to allow companies two extra methods to prove qualifying past performance. One, through joint ventures where the members performed contract work. Two, through prime contracts where the members were fist-tier subcontractors.

The rule implements Section 868 of the National Defense Authorization Act that aims to make it easier for small business subcontractors to obtain the needed ratings from contracting officers and prime contractors they’ve previously worked with. The rule change does not preclude using additional evaluation factors during the process.
