Marathon Mark-up: Day 4
Today, the House Ways & Means Committee is expected to conclude its four-day mark-up of H.R. 1, the “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.” Committee Chair Kevin Brady (R-TX) is expected to introduce a “manager’s amendment” this morning. A manager’s amendment is a large amendment, containing a number of individual amendments, offered by the Member of Congress managing debate on a bill. It will seek to bring H.R. 1, currently scored by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) at $1.7 trillion over 10 years, into compliance with the FY 2018 Budget Resolution, which stipulates that tax reform cannot exceed $1.5 trillion over 10 years.
Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, the Senate committee of jurisdiction for taxation, is expected to release the Senate GOP blueprint for tax reform this afternoon.
